W-2 generator
A W-2 reports a year of wages and withholding for one employee. Employers must give it to the employee and file it with the SSA by January 31. PaystubLine builds it from the pay stubs you already issued, so the boxes match the final YTD totals.

What goes in each box

| Box 2 | Federal income tax withheld. |
| Box 3 | Social Security wages, capped at $184,500 for 2026. Includes 401(k) deferrals. |
| Box 4 | Social Security tax withheld: 6.2% of box 3. |
| Box 5 | Medicare wages, with no cap. |
| Box 6 | Medicare tax withheld: 1.45%, plus 0.9% above $200,000. |
| Box 12 | Coded amounts, such as D for 401(k) deferrals and DD for employer health coverage cost. |
| Boxes 15 to 17 | State, employer state ID, state wages and state income tax withheld. |
