How we research, check and correct
Every number on PaystubLine traces back to a primary source, every page shows when it was last reviewed, and every confirmed error is corrected within one business day.
Sources we use
- IRS Publication 15-T and the IRS annual inflation adjustments for brackets and standard deductions.
- The Social Security Administration for the wage base.
- The Department of Labor for overtime and exemption rules.
- Each state's department of revenue for state withholding.
How a page is checked
Figures are produced by one tax engine used everywhere on the site, so a calculator, a stub and a research table can never disagree. Before publishing, a page's worked examples are recomputed and compared with the primary source.
Dates
Each page shows its last review date. Rates are reviewed every January and whenever a state changes its law mid-year.
Corrections
Report an error to [email protected]. Confirmed errors are fixed within one business day and noted on the methodology page.
Independence
We do not accept payment for placement in guides or comparisons. Comparison pages use only public, dated facts.
