What is Federal income tax (FIT) on a pay stub?

Federal income tax withholding is the amount the employer sends to the IRS toward the employee's annual income tax. It depends on wages, pay frequency and the employee's Form W-4. Employers compute it with the tables in IRS Publication 15-T.
